04/11/2008 (Madrid) Celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Saint s Day of HRH the Grand Master

The 70th anniversary celebration of the Saint Day of HRH the Infante don Carlos, duke of Calabria, was celebrated in the Church of the Military Archdiocese, the Archbishop Castrense, in Madrid on 4 November. The religious service was followed by an investiture of new members and a sung Te Deum. Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Master and the Duchess of Calabria entered a crowded Church to be greeted by HE the Most Reverend Archbishop, Monsignor Juan del Río Martín, who presided at the altar, along with Monsignor Jorge Farre y Muro, Prior of the Delegation of Catalonia. Those present included HRH Princess Cristina of the Two Sicilies accompanied by her husband don Pedro Lopez-Quesada, and HRH Prince Franz-Wilhelm of Prussia, as well as His Excellency the Apostolic Nuncio, and their Excellencies the Ambassadors of the Order of Malta and the Republic of Italy.
Those senior officers of the Order who attended included the President of the Deputation, Ambassador of Italy Baron Paolo Pucci di Benisichi, the Grand Chancellor Ambassador of Spain don Carlos Abella y Ramallo, the Vice-Grand Prefect the Duke of Huescar, the Auditor-General the Duke of Pastrana, the Grand Treasurer Baron Emanuele Emmanuele, the Vice-Grand Chancellor Guy Stair Sainty, the Secretary-General the Count of la Conquista, the President of the Italian Commission Duke don Diego de Vargas Machuca, the President of the Portuguese Commission the Count of Rio Grande, and the Delegate for Catalonia don Xavier Montesa.
The following Orders, and Chivalric and Nobiliary organizations were officially represented: the Spanish Assembly of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, the Subpriory of San Jorge and Santiago of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, the Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, the Royal Council of the Military Orders, the Military Order of Santiago, the Military Order of Calatrava, the Military Order of Alcántara, the Military Order of Montesa, the Royal and the Military Orders of San Fernando and San Hermenegildo, the Royal Body of the Nobility of Madrid, the Royal Maestranza of Caballería of Sevilla, the Royal Maestranza of Caballería of Granada, the Royal Maestranza of Caballería of Valencia, the Royal Maestranza of Caballería of Zaragoza, the Royal Military Estamento of the Principality of Gerona, the Illustrious and Noble Esclavitud of St John the Evangelst of the Laguna, the Most Illustrious Cabildo of Knights and Esquires of Cuenca, the Royal, Illustrious and Primitive Noble Chapter of Caballeros of La Merced, the Association of Hidalgos A Fuero of Spain, the Royal, Most Ancient and Illustrious Confraternity of Caballeros Cubicularios of San Ildefonso and San Atilano of Zamora, the Ancient and Illustrious Solar de Tejada, the Collegiate Body of the Nobility of Asturias, the Maestranza of Caballería of San Fernando, the Body of the Nobility of the Ancient Kingdom Galicia, and the Royal Brotherhood of Caballeros of San Fernando.
Following the ceremony HRH the Infante don Carlos, Duke of Calabria, Grand Master was the guest of honour at a dinner at the Nuevo Club in Madrid, before which the Most Reverend Monsignor Martin was invested with the Grand Cross of Justice by HRH. Those present included the Vice-Grand Prefect, the Grand Chancellor, the Grand Treasurer, the Auditor-General, the Vice-Grand Chancellor, and the Presidents of the Italian and Portuguese Commissions.
