OBITUARIES OF THE CONSTANTINIAN ORDER

HRH PRINCESS LUCIA MARIA RANIERA OF THE TWO SICILIES, DUCHESS OF GENOA

We announce with deep sadness the death of HRH Princess Lucia Maria Raniera of the Two Sicilies, Duchess of Genoa, at the age of ninety-three, at her home in Brazil.

HRH was the 4th daughter and last surviving child of the late Ferdinand-Pius, Duke of Calabria, Head of the Royal House of the Two Sicilies from 1934-1960. HRH grew up in Bavaria, but when in 1938 she became engaged to marry a younger son of the Duke of Genoa, Prince Eugenio of Savoy-Genoa, Duke of Ancona, it marked the first occasion since 1860 for any formal relations between the House of Bourbon-Sicily and the House of Savoy. To mark the occasion, the Duke of Calabria traveled to Rome (with an special Italian passportn granted to him as Duke of Calabria) and paid a call on the King and Queen of Italy at the Villa Savoia. The duke of Ancona later succeeded his elder brother as Duke of Genoa.

Her Royal Highness left an only daughter Princess Maria Isabella of Savo-Genoa, who in 1971 married Alberto Frioli.
