HRH Infanta D. Beatriz de Borbón y Battenberg

The Spanish Royal Household has announced the death of HRH Infanta D. Beatriz de Borbón y Battenberg, second daughter and last surviving daughter of Their late Majesties King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia.

Her Royal Highness had married in Rome D. Alessandro Torlonia, Prince of Civitelli Cesi, of a family long associated with service to the Holy See. Her funeral in Rome was attended by TM the King and Queen of Spain, and the Prince of the Asturias with Infante D. Carlos (seated in the first rank in the Church), accompanied by Anne Duchess of Calabria, the Infanta Cristina and her husband, also seated in the sanctuary.

The Grand Master of the Order of Malta accompanied by Prince Paolo Boncompagni-Ludovisi, attended. Also present were TRH the Duke of Aosta, Prince Maria-Pia di Savoia and Prince Michel de Bourbon-Parma with some of their children. The celebrant was Cardinal Martínez-Somalo, Camerlengo of the S.R.C.

Her Royal Highness was a Dame Grand Cross of the Constantinian Order.

The funeral service was held in Basilica of the Escorial on 20th January 2003.
