H.E. THE MOST REV. MONS. CUSTODIO ALVIM PEREIRA DIED ON 12 NOVEMBER 2006

His Excellency the Most Reverend Monsignor Custodio Alvim Pereira, Archbishop Emeritus of Lourenço Marques, Archpriest of the Vatican Basilica, Vice-Grand Prior and Chaplain Grand Cross of Merit of the Constantinian Order, died in Rome on 12 November 2006.

Monsognor Pereira was born on 6 February 1915 in São João do Monte, Portugal. He was ordained a priest in 1937, appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Lourenço Marques, Mozambique and Titular Bishop of Nepte in 1958. Next year he was ordained Titular Bishop of Nepte.

He was appointed Archbishop of Lourenço Marques, Mozambique in 1962 and resigned that see in 1974.

The funeral was held in the Basilica of St. Peter on 14 November.
