PONTIFICAL MASS IN MILAN, 3 MARCH 2006

The Most Rev Monsignor Gianfranco Ravasi, Apostolic Protonotary and Prefect of the Ambrosian Library celebrated a Pontifical Mass on 3rd March 2006 in the ancient Church of the Holy Sepulchre, in Milan, which Mgr Ravasi has put at the disposal of the Order for its functions in Milan.

Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Milan

This ancient church, founded in the early 11th century by Benedetto Tonzone was rebuilt in commemoration of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, circa 100.

The two bell towers were added later in the 12th century, the façade rebuilt at the end of the 16th century and the interior radically redesigned in the baroque style by command of D. Federico Borromeo.

The most recent architectural interventions took place in the 19th century when the façade was rebuilt once again, in the Roman-Byzantine style.
